Requirements

DUE TO COVID 19, THE IOWA REAL ESTATE COMMISSION HAS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED SOME PROVISIONS FOR 2020.

The information below applies to both Salesperson and Broker license renewals.

STEP 1: COMPLETE COURSES FOR RENEWAL
Up to 24 hours may be taken by home study or online

COURSE COMPLETION CERTIFICATES

After you complete a course, a course completion certificate will be issued to you. This certificate includes a course number that is used by the Iowa Real Estate Commission to verify your completion of the course. Save all of your course completion certificates.

If you take a class with Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS®, your certificate will be available under your profile. Visit your member login to view.

STEP 2: RENEW YOUR LICENSE
License renewal is available online. Visit plb.iowa.gov to renew your license. Note that online license renewal is available only during renewal periods (typically November through January). However, you can visit plb.iowa.gov at any time to verify the status of any real estate licensee or company.

To renew your license, you must log into My Iowa PLB. If you have not yet logged into the new system, click on new user. Set up your account and link your license. Paper renewals are no longer accepted. During the renewal period, you will click on “Applications/Renewals.” Complete the checklist, upload your course completion certificates, and click “Submit for Review.”

For salespersons who received their license AFTER January 1, 2009 or have been an agent for more than three (3) years, and for broker renewal:
4 hours: Ethics
8 hours: Law Update
24 hours: Electives
Total: 36 hours
(24 hours maximum of distance learning, online, or home-study)

Education Center Policies

Attendance Requirements
Full attendance is required by the Iowa Real Estate Commission in order for an attendee to receive their certificate. Those who arrive late, leave early, or leave during class will not be eligible for CE credit.

If you are not in the classroom once class begins, you shall not receive a certificate. However, you may still attend the class for the content since you have paid for it. We will not issue a refund for late students. There is no provision for a make-up class.

Online Live Instruction Courses (Z00m)

Appearing and remaining on camera for the duration of class is mandatory in order to receive credit per the Iowa Real Estate Commission. If you are off camera for any duration of the class, you will be removed from class and unable to receive credit.

Driving while in class is not permitted. If you are driving, you will be removed from class and unable to receive credit.

Payment
Any charges/fees are applied on a per-student basis as follows:

  • Online registration ahead of time is required for all classes. See individual course descriptions for listed prices.
  • There is a $10 processing fee for any classes paid for by check instead of using the online registration system. Checks are to be made out to Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS®. Cash payment is not accepted.
  • Walk-in Registration/Pay at the Door: Day-of registration is not guaranteed for all classes, based on limited seating. Anyone who attends a course without pre-registering will not receive their certificate until payment has been received. An invoice for the class will be automatically applied to their member account.
  • Registrations and payments are handled by Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® unless otherwise stated.

Full payment is expected at the time of registration. You will not be guaranteed a seat in the class if payment is not received.

If you register for a class and do not attend you will forfeit your registration fee, unless you adhere to the cancellation policy below.

Cancellation Policy
For all in-person classes under four hours, there is a no-show fee of $25. For a course over four hours, the no-show fee is equivalent to the cost of the course. If you register for a class, you have up until 24 hours before class begins to cancel your registration if you will no longer be attending, or you will be billed the respective fee. Cancellations can be made online on your account, by calling the Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® office, or by emailing megan@icaar.org.

No refunds will be given on or after the day of the class. No refunds will be given for on-line courses through the CEShop.

Classes are subject to cancellation if the minimum number of paid registrants is not met or due to instructor illness or inclement weather. If Iowa City Area Association of REALTORS® is forced to cancel class, registered participants will have the option of a full refund or credit towards another class.

Having an official REALTOR® Designation and/or Certification gives you a competitive edge in this ever-changing industry, and allows you to grow your business through many different avenues.
